The food was amazing. I had the steak. My wife had the chicken. We started with these egg rolls. Very delicious. It wasn't crowded on an 8 o'clock Saturday night. Great for a private date night. Atmosphere was fancy. Highly recommend the restaurant.
Overview
Walking into The Dime at 12 N 7th St, Allentown, PA 18101, United States feels like stepping into a place that already knows you. The clink of silverware, the low hum of conversation, and the smell of fresh coffee set the tone before you even sit down. I’ve eaten here more times than I can count, usually after a long workday downtown, and the experience has been consistent in a way that’s hard to find lately. It’s the kind of diner where the staff remembers your order and asks how your week’s been going, not because it’s policy, but because that’s just how things are done.
The menu leans into classic American diner comfort food, but it’s not stuck in the past. Breakfast is an all-day favorite, and there’s something reassuring about seeing eggs cracked to order right behind the counter. On one visit, I watched a cook handle a rush with calm precision, flipping pancakes while timing bacon and home fries so everything landed on the plate hot. That attention to process matters. According to the National Restaurant Association, consistency in food preparation is one of the top factors driving repeat visits, and it shows here in a very real way.
Lunch and dinner options expand into burgers, sandwiches, and daily specials that rotate based on what’s fresh and what regulars are asking for. A server once explained how the kitchen adjusts portions and seasoning based on customer feedback, which lines up with what food service researchers often point out: diners that actively listen to reviews tend to outperform those that don’t. You can taste that responsiveness in small details, like a burger that’s clearly been seasoned with care rather than rushed out.
Reviews around town often mention the value, and that’s not hype. Portion sizes are generous without feeling wasteful, and prices stay reasonable for a downtown location. I’ve brought coworkers here who were skeptical at first, only to hear them say this place hits the sweet spot between comfort and quality halfway through the meal. That reaction mirrors broader industry data from consumer studies showing that diners prioritize perceived value just as much as flavor when choosing where to eat.
Cleanliness and food safety are also taken seriously. I’ve noticed regular surface wipe-downs and clear separation between prep areas, which aligns with CDC guidelines for reducing foodborne illness risks. While no restaurant can guarantee perfection, visible care goes a long way in building trust. It’s one reason families and older patrons feel comfortable making this a regular stop.
Location plays a role too. Being right in the heart of Allentown makes it an easy choice whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or settling in after an event nearby. Parking can be a little tight during peak hours, which is worth noting, but most locals plan around it without much trouble. That’s one of the few limitations, and it’s more about the city layout than the restaurant itself.
What really keeps people coming back is the atmosphere. There’s no forced theme or polished gimmick, just a sense that the place grew naturally with the neighborhood. I once overheard a longtime resident telling a newcomer that this diner has been part of my routine for years, and that kind of loyalty doesn’t happen by accident. It’s built meal by meal, conversation by conversation.
For anyone scanning menus online or reading reviews to decide where to eat in Allentown, this spot stands out because it feels honest. The food does what it promises, the staff knows what they’re doing, and the experience matches the reputation. That reliability, backed by real-world practices and community trust, is what makes it more than just another place to grab a bite.

Wanted to try this restaurant for a while now and luckily i had the chance to for my friends birthday. The atmosphere is unique and comfortable. The waitress we had was super sweet and helpful with my order. I ordered the cosmopolitan, the chicken milanese with a side salad. The other dish was the Panko Crushed Salmon with wine. The food was good and tasty. The drinks were good as well.
We went to The Dime before a show at PPL and we were so glad we did! The atmosphere was very unique and the service was fantastic-almost TOO quick! The food was excellent. Everyone at our table enjoyed their drinks and dinners. I would love to come back soon.
We had our daughter’s rehearsal dinner here. The venue and staff were exceptional and the food was delicious. All of our guests kept telling us how much they enjoyed the food. We highly recommend this wonderful establishment.
Absolutely amazing experience! My friends and I (a group of 10) had the most incredible time at The Dime in Allentown. From the moment we walked in, the staff went above and beyond to ensure our evening was perfect. The atmosphere was warm, inviting, and ideal for our gathering. A special shout-out to Karina, our server, who was nothing short of phenomenal. She handled every detail with care, professionalism, and such a friendly attitude. No request was too much for her, and she truly made us feel like valued guests. We were so impressed by her attentiveness and the way she anticipated our needs before we even asked. We’d also like to thank Tom, the manager, who went out of his way to accommodate our special requests. His efforts truly elevated the evening, and his dedication to providing exceptional service did not go unnoticed. From the exceptional food to the outstanding service, everything about The Dime was top-tier. We wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant for any occasion—whether it’s a casual night out or a special celebration. Thank you, Karina and Tom, for making our night unforgettable. We’ll definitely be back!
